The story of a Barn Owl chick named Buma (the Arabic name of a the Barn Owl) who grew up at Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu, in the national initiative of using Barn Owls and Kestrels as biological pest control agents in agriculture fields. The book was published with funding from the Hoopoe Foundation, SPNI.
The book is rich in spectacular nature photographs by the photographer Amir Ezer, and was written by Prof. Yossi Leshem, who is the initiator and director of the project. The book is suitable for both children, parents and grandparents, and is popularly written, with an emphasis on scientific activity and nature conservation. The project became a success story of cooperation between Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian farmers, Arab and Jews, who together led to reducing the use of pesticides. A pair of Barn Owls feed on between 2,000-6,000 rodents a year.
The book also contains a DVD with a variety of films, presentations, learning materials, the voices of all the owls in Israel and more.
